Find out more about The University of Sunderland in London and Higher Education by taking part in our on-campus Subject Taster Days. Alternatively, you can book one of a series of tailor-made talks and workshops for groups of different sizes, delivered at your sixth form or college.

Subject Taster Days

Our Subject Taster Days provide students an engaging way to explore their preferred fields of study. Led by industry-experienced academic staff, these sessions offer valuable insight into university-level learning. Students will gain a real sense of what studying at the University of Sunderland in London is like, helping them make informed decisions about their future education.

We customise our Subject Taster Days to suit your needs, offering flexible scheduling at a date that works best for you - And whether you're bringing a small group or a larger cohort, we can accommodate your students with multiple sessions during their visit.  

In addition to subject-specific taster sessions, we can include a range of additional activities during our Subject Taster Days to help students prepare for their next steps. These activities include career guidance workshops, talks on student life at UoSiL, insights into our course offerings and admissions process, and a guided tour of our new Harbour Exchange campus, showcasing its state-of-the-art facilities.

Talks and workshops

We know that time is valuable for post-16 students, so we also offer a series of talks and workshops to fill slots of 30 – 60 minutes at your sixth form/ college. 

You can decide whether these sessions are delivered to a form or year group, and as part of a full programme or a one-off session - we can be flexible in order to meet your needs. Below are some of the talks and workshops you can look forward to experiencing with us:

Mastering university applications

Introducing the UCAS process, our direct application process, and tips to writing outstanding personal statements.

 

Student life

Insight, advice and guidance on all aspects of life as a university student- from useful tips on study skills, time management, and exam preparation, to socialising with peers, networking, and much more on how to make the most of the support available at university.

 

Student finance and budgeting

Essential advice on student finance, tuition fees, and exclusive scholarships and bursaries available at UoSiL. The talk will also cover budgeting tips and typical costs whilst studying to help students manage their finances effectively.

 

Introduction to UoSiL

Delivered by our Student Recruitment team, this talk gives students a better understanding of the foundation and undergraduate degree courses we offer at the University of Sunderland in London, the benefits of studying with us, and the career prospects open to our graduates.

 

Transitioning to University

Supported by our current student ambassadors, this workshop offers valuable insights into university life. Students will receive practical tips on managing the transition, what to expect in their first months, and the support available to help them settle in and thrive at university.

Guest workshops

Delivered by industry-experienced academics at your sixth form or college, our interactive guest workshops cover the subject areas of Business, Finance, Tourism and Events, or Healthcare. These workshops offer students a hands-on experience, providing a taste of university-level study and helping them explore their areas of interest through a range of engaging and interactive activities.

 

Personal statements workshop

Our personal statements workshop helps students craft strong personal statements for UCAS or our direct application, covering practical tips, real examples, and step-by-step guidance in an interactive session led by our Student Recruitment Team.

 

Career planning workshop

Our career planning workshop helps students explore their skills, aspirations, and potential career paths through interactive activities and one-on-one support from our Careers Team. Tailored to their needs, it also provides insight into relevant university courses and how their skillsets apply across different industries.
